Ah yes! the Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant. I remember back in the mid 60s going there on a fairly regular basis. My pal Ken Jones and I won a line at bingo in the Portrack Social Club (The Blood Tub) one sunday night and spent the winnings, all of ten bob, on a meal in the Hong Kong, curried egg & fried rice, 4/6d each plus 1 shilling tip for the waiter, that would be a grand total of 50p today. 15/03/2010 08:19:03

THE HONG KONG CHINESE RESTAURANT WAS THE BEST PLACE TO GO FOR A THREE COURSE LUNCHTIME SPECIAL AT A COST OF TEN BOB, WE USED IT A LOT IN THE 60s. I REMEMBER TOMMY STONES BEING ON THE DOOR DURING THE EVENING OPENING HOURS, HE WAS ALWAYS THE LAST TO HAVE A MEAL WHEN THE PLACE WAS CLOSING.15/03/2010 12:57:36

Is the Ken Jones the one who used to be on the door staff at the Showboat & Baileys, he was a Thornaby lad who played football for South Thornaby & Stockton Buffs Club. 16/03/2010 16:58:52

No, Not the same lad, Ken was a Bailey St/Grangefield lad and a fellow Rock 'n' roll fan, who lived behind Norton road near the old baths in the 60s & 70s, Worked at Fordy's Builders & The Malleable, now lives in Swindon. We are still in touch with each other.18/03/2010 11:45:43
